In addition, Sony is being sued for the PS5’s Dual Sense Controller. Apparently, there are enough PS5 owners with analog stick drift to file a class action lawsuit against the company. The complaint is based not only on the drift problem, but also on the fact that consumers have to pay for controller shipping and long repair times. I don’t think this lawsuit will ultimately hold up, because the number of complaints is quite low and the company suing Sony has not been approached by consumers, but has taken it upon himself to find customers to join his lawsuit. It sounds like a typical fundraiser for an ordinary law firm, but we’ll see how it plays out over time.
Speaking of Sony and the PS5, one word always comes to mind when I think of the…. brand. think. Scalper! Sure, they’ve always been around, but with the pandemic and the shortage of consoles, scalpers are in the spotlight more than ever. It seems that many scalpers have a bad reputation. They feel like they are doing what everyone else is doing, which is making a little more money.
A group of human traffickers who call themselves The Lab say they are merely middlemen and that the media give them a bad reputation. When the world is suffering and so many people are forced to stay home, video games can really help pass the time. I was lucky (and always grateful) to pre-order and get a PS5 on launch day, but many people miss out because the scalpers are just trying to make money…. I get it. We all want to make more money, but nothing they tell me makes me feel good about the scalpel. If you upgrade PS5 to double your profit, that’s not cool. If you need something, find someone who really wants it and charge them an extra $100. I’m sorry. Don’t apologize. That’s my opinion too, but we’re all entitled to our opinions.
Moreover, the PS5 became the best-selling platform in the United States in terms of dollar sales in January 2021. This is important because Nintendo set a record for console sales in January, the highest in the last 12 years. I don’t know if Sony is happy with the sales numbers or if they’re pulling their hair out because of the lack of AMD chips, but either way, once PS5 console production is constant, we’ll likely hear about many more sales records in 2021 and 2022.
I know we’re all tired of hearing about the PS5 stock shortage, but seriously, where are all those consoles? Put your Batman meme here….
One last thing before I wrap up today’s update, and I’m sorry to say this applies to PS5 as well. It’s just one of those weeks, you know?
Anyway, Sony has filed an interesting new patent for the Dual Sense controller, which has some amazing features. Of course we see parents receive files all the time and nothing comes out, but it can happen.
Sony has issued a patent that allows you to experience haptic feedback via the Dual Sense controller while viewing a previously recorded or running event. This opens up many possibilities. It would be great to see E3, and see Sony bring the presentation, and you can feel the touch feedback of the demo game on the screen. To make it even more remarkable, the patent describes the release of smell and taste. It is based on both streaming and VR. Although it gets more complicated when you read the patent, it’s a crazy idea. I can’t imagine how they can deliver consistent scents and flavors through the controller, but I’m no engineer, so I’ll leave it up to them. Pretty cool, huh?
Thanks for telling us about your time reading PlayStation Weekly. I know it’s only a matter of time before I can confidently tell you that PS5s can be ordered without stress or hassle. So if you’re still looking for a PS5, hold on tight and remember that there aren’t many new games for the PS5 right now. It’s a great console, and I love it, but anyone who wants to wait for new content to come out is probably the luckiest gamer of all.
