I’ve written several times about my attachment to magical objects (if the treasure isn’t one of the rewards I get when I play, why should I play?). And speaking of magical objects, check out this great collection of DnD Gifts. I have browsed through collections of fascinating magical objects, but also through collections of only usable objects. But what was lacking until now was the means to transform ordinary objects into magical or even mechanically improved objects. Enter the heavy artillery and the complete Gunsmith’s Manual. This guide will help players and their DMs to integrate weapon and armor upgrades into their campaigns, both thematically and mechanically.
This supplement, which is divided into two main parts, focuses on everyday weapon and armour upgrades. For example, upgrading your weapon to +1 to hit does not necessarily mean that it suddenly becomes magical (important against some monsters). What I like about this approach is that it adds a new level to the game: the maintenance of the hardware. My experience with my equipment was primarily one of the hopes not to lose this holy avenger… But now players have a reason to appreciate their swords and armor, not just to have them. If you’re really looking for a diving experience, isn’t it worth sharpening and balancing your swords or repairing and strengthening your armour when you’re back in town? Now you have more opportunities to spend your gold.
The second part is about magical updates and introduces rune magic into your campaigns. There are many ways to add extra layers of useful NPCs, downtime and perhaps even minor political intrigue. If you regularly deal with the Thieves Guild or the Bakers’ Union (hey, it happens), you’ll like the players of the fortified Rune Crafting Guild agency and the way they contain the spread of magical runes.
Most of the magical improvements to these runes are specific (i.e. the Giantslayer and Dragon Tower), and not just ordinary magic (as in the case of the Magic Garden + 3 Swords version).
I can always tell you about the content, but you can see everything on the product page. I can only point to its size. It is indeed an excellent product that increases the player’s agency, gives him a pool of money and reduces DM costs. If you combine it with first-class production, it doesn’t make sense. You want this product. Maybe you don’t know yet. It is clear that other similar work with heavy weapons is planned. I can’t wait to see what else they do. That must be great.
