Maybe the demons are a little strong at first. Basically, you fight ninja rabbits and overmatched boars. Anyway, you are accused of growing rice and hunting for food. Basically, eating rabbit ninjas is fine. But then you have to prepare all these things or they will spoil overnight. I don’t think they are literally there 24 hours a day because the food doesn’t usually go from fresh to spoiled overnight, but it happens on Hinoe so you just have to understand that. But it doesn’t matter, because you can recycle or cook each item to make another ingredient that won’t spoil. At the moment we have a sideways moving platform, an agricultural simulator and a small lifeboat.
One thing that will really help you on your journey back to the home of Sakuna, the capital of Michashira and the immortal kingdom of Lofty, is patience. I really didn’t know how I would feel in this rather mundane environment at the beginning of the game. They go back and plant every rice plant. You will be judged on the quality of your plantation. Next, you need to make sure you have enough water in the rice field and not too much. You need to take care of your plants as often as possible to remove weeds, collect bugs, and basically learn how to grow rice. The tallest man (or one of the men’s children) is a lot like the younger generation of players, being more of a spectator than a player. I watch endless hours of YouTubers playing for themselves, but I digress. Tauemon isn’t very good at it, but more than good enough to tell you how to do it. Do you look like someone you know? They say: Those who can’t, teach. He can’t do it, so he teaches. After all, it’s much healthier.
Every night, after tending to your farm and hunting down the aliens, everyone gathers for dinner in your little village or camp. Much of the story is told at these dinners and can be quite fascinating. You can select the meal menu. The good thing is that what you choose to feed your sons will also improve certain aspects of your fighting style, healing ability, and other traits that may develop over time. So now we have entered the realm of NGNs. Basically, it’s a game that has something for everyone, but for some players not an excess of one thing. I think this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Personally, I enjoyed the varied gameplay, and I really enjoyed the character development throughout the story.
The platforming aspect of the game revolves around adventure and exploration of the regions of the island. You will encounter many different types of enemies, not just ninja rabbits. You have bosses that will fill the screen and make it look like you’re in the fight of your life. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it’s a pretty easy fight with the boss. In each of these areas you really need to explore every possible nook and cranny. The game increases the difficulty significantly as you progress. There’s not a single moment where you think the game is too easy, and suddenly they drop a bomb on you and raise the difficulty to the point of frustration. No, they’re slowly destroying your will at what I think is a good pace. Yet they throw everything at you and suck up any sense of power after the sun goes down. They really want you to go home, eat and continue the story.
The side-scrolling adventure zones offer some really cool moves that you can perform after learning them, while cultivating and creating weapons from the items you find in each level. You can access any level, but you’ll want to explore some species more than others, perhaps to obtain certain raw materials like clay and stone to make new weapons. By new weapons, I actually mean farm implements, because that’s what we usually fight with. A couple of big brass hoes or maybe a stone rake or something could really do some damage. But the most beautiful thing you have, the one that will be most useful, is the dress. It’s a kind of scarf she uses that reminds me of one of my old favorite NES games: Bionic Command. It’s not quite the same as a bionic arm, but that’s enough for me to make a comparison and give you an idea of what the weapon is. It’s cool because you can attach it to enemies, and then swing around and attack them from behind. This can be beneficial in many situations and is also very necessary to complete most levels.
When I mentioned patience earlier, it’s really helpful when it comes to picking rice. The time you invest in folding the rice determines the quality of the crop you get. I know nothing about growing and harvesting rice in real life, but the game says brown rice is white rice that is less processed. I don’t know if it’s true, but you can google it if you want. I prefer to play the game and not worry so much about real life drawings.
The graphics and music are very well designed and will delight your eyes and ears. Their little animations, the voice acting, the songs the characters sing while working and many other little things make this game a fun and enjoyable experience.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when Sakuna:. was announcedRice and Ruin , but I have to say I’m pleased with the final product. This is going to sound strange to a critic, but I can’t complain. Technically and in terms of control, nothing has gone wrong as the fight is as perfect as the landing. In fact, I’d say the only thing that bothered me was the frequency of some of the things Sakuna said during her fight. I feel like if they lowered their voice, you’d have a great game to keep yourself entertained for a while.
