I saw that the game was complete (except for the ending), so I tried it.
It’s a lot like the first game, with no surprises, but a lot of difficulties.
- The atmosphere and exploration are again excellent, but with less angst and wonder because it’s no longer a novel. But in the 20 years I’ve been playing video games, I’ve never felt this way before. An incredible achievement.
- The Seatruck is a good idea, but only the memory module makes sense. I also wish it had some sort of manipulating arm, so you don’t have to climb up and down for every little stone.
- The absence of any cartographic mechanism was very annoying. OG I kind of tolerated because the biomes were pretty obvious and the underwater caves were well designed. But in the Lower Nile region, especially in the vast glacial basin/arrow basin, a map is sorely needed. Everything looks the same, and you’re constantly running around in circles. Plus, there’s some kind of map on your Seaglide. But if you’re using it for long introductory trips, you have to get out of your seat, grab the Seaglide, turn on the radar, swim a bit, and then get back in. Not very practical. In short, in a big open game like this, a card is indispensable.
- Most of what you can scan is purely cosmetic. You can build a basic fort with all sorts of bells and whistles (10 different types of beds, tons of posters, pictures, plants, etc.). I wish it was more integrated – if you could sleep in, if there was a benefit to all the embellishments (e.g. a moral system), if you could do research and cook better food, etc.).
4.1. Speaking of useless, unfortunately you will never need your shrimp suit. OG’s favorite mech is lost in Below Zero, because the maximum update depth for Seatruck is 1000 meters, and the deepest point in the game is also 1000 meters (at least, I haven’t found anything deeper). So the only use of crab is to drill resource nodes, which is annoying because you have to drag it around to do it.
- Food and water are not edible for any reason. After two hours in survival mode, I rebooted to freedom mode. I don’t mind the elements of survival, but they have to be fun and not too painful. It was so nice to not have half of my stash already before I left for the long trip. And when I was desperately lost at the North Pole, I was so glad I had no food or drink, omg.
- I assume the promoters have publicly stated they don’t like fights or anything? The problem is that the world is full of aggressive enemies chasing you all over the map to rip your face off, and all you have is a weak electric attack. Trying to dodge the four Shadow Leviathan with his AoE attack in the cramped crystal caves was no fun at all. I wish there was a way to treat these beasts forever. I wouldn’t want to turn Subnautica into a sleek, mindless underwater shooter, that would be terrible. But the combat could be a complete mini-game where you build harpoons, set traps and fight leviathans with your crabs as you jump around and fight. This could get super exciting. Either way, you can only slow them down or distract them with expensive torpedoes, which is annoying, especially if you really want to explore accurately and are constantly being chased by the Leviathan.
OG and Below Zero are both games that could have been dazzling gems. But the lack of a map and a fun way to deal with threats leaves me wanting. That’s a shame. Still, I’ll never forget my first blind staging of the original Subnautica, especially in the early hours. This is the most fun video game I’ve ever played.

- sub-zero criticism
I would love to enjoy this game. I really do. It’s just that this game is bad and I can’t tone it down. I’m not upset that this game isn’t creating an underwater buzz, but it shouldn’t be worse than having to resort to a full review. But why would…
- My idea of a Below Zero location.
Down here, Zero is completely rewriting his story, and I don’t blame them. I applaud the attempt to have living, breathing characters, but that doesn’t work in a survival game. I can get a mission that advances the main cause, and the NPC doesn’t care if I do it in 5 minutes, or if I drag myself to ….. drag.
- Below zero: Message
Yes. I know it’s in Alpha. I know things can change. Hopefully some features will change. But here are some things I’ve noticed since joining the maintenance staff: 1. For. The fact that there is even a sequel to Sub-Nautical is an epic moment for a player. В…
Message Below Zero is a mixture of amazement and annoyance for the game Subnautica.
