When it comes to streaming, you have more options than in the past regarding the platforms on which you can stream. Twitch is generally the platform of choice for many of the world’s leading personalities. But with the arrival of YouTube and Facebook Live and their emergence to monetize streaming platforms, new users can use all three to see which one is best for them.
Streamlabs has integrated in its OBS client the possibility to broadcast on multiple platforms simultaneously. You can find the settings for this by going to the settings via the gear icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the customer, switching to the Flow tab and seeing the three main suppliers as flow destinations.
Twitch, Facebook and YouTube can be added by simply clicking the Connect button, but you can also add more by using the Add Destination feature. Once the services are connected, your stream will play them all automatically when you go on the air.
However, if you are not a member of the Streamlabs Prime service, you can only send your stream to one service at a time. Your value-added service can be expensive when you’re just starting out. So it’s up to you to decide if you think the service is worth it. When you sign up and login to Streamlabs OBS with your Reward account, you can include additional services in the price.
There is a way around this problem, but other measures should be taken to allow the flow to run through multiple platforms simultaneously without using Prime.
You must use the Restream.io streaming service. The Restream service downloads the broadcast you receive to any platform you connect to, including more professional services such as Linkedin.
There is a separate premium service if you want additional features such as integrated streaming recording, streaming to a Facebook page or group instead of your personal page, and restream branding, but it allows you to stream to multiple services with a single download. There is also an initial limit to the services you can stream, but for those who want to stream games, you probably won’t need more than the three services offered for Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.
First you need to create an account for Restream.io. After logging in, you will be greeted with a welcome screen to add channels to the feed. Follow the instructions to add the desired channels.
It asks permission to use the details of all accounts you log in to. Once connected, you play all the services you want to stream in the Destinations section.
Once configured, including the required names for your feeds, there is an option for RTMP settings on the right side of this page. Get information about the Restream platform, including the flow key. Copy this streaming key and then go back to Streamlabs OBS.
On the Feeds tab in the settings, you will need the Custom Receive Feeds option. This takes you to the settings page, where you can select Restream.io as a service via the drop-down menu. Paste here the feed key you copied from Restream.io and click Finish.
You are now ready to go live on any platform you have converted to Restream. Each of your shows carries a transparent Restream logo, but that means you can broadcast on any show without paying for the premium service.
Please note that if you are streaming on multiple platforms at the same time, you will need to check the provider’s terms and conditions. For example, affiliates and partners of Twitch can stream to other platforms, but only if the same content is not streamed on Twitch. If you’re streaming on Twitch, it can only be Twitch.
