Nintendo reported its results for the second quarter of the financial year 2021. Most of the data is presented as a consolidated period of six months, so we will also refer to these data. This means that most of the figures relate to the sales period from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2008. April 2020 to 30. September 2020. In the first half of the financial year, Nintendo’s net sales were Yen 769.5 billion, an increase of 73.3% over the same period last year. Operating profit was Yen 291.4 billion (+208.3%) and net profit Yen 213.1 billion (+243.6%). Nintendo’s video game division contributed Yen 741.9 billion (+75.4%), the mobile phone division contributed Yen 26.7 billion (+33.9%) and the video cards division contributed Yen 0.8 billion (-15.3%).
For two consecutive quarters, both of which were very successful, Nintendo revised its forecasts for the whole year. It expects an increase in turnover and profit as a result of the increased demand for its products. Nintendo originally planned to sell 19 million switches by the end of the financial year 2021 (31 March 2021), but now expects to sell 24 million. The software has been developed from an initial estimate of 140 million to 170 million.
In the first half of the year, Nintendo recorded significant growth in both hardware and software compared to the previous year. Nintendo has managed to sell 12.53 million switches, an increase of 80.9% compared to the same period last year. Software sales amounted to 100.25 million (71.4% growth). The main charge was Animal Crossing: New Horizon with 14.27 million copies sold in the first half of the year. In the first two weeks on the market, Super Mario 3D All-Stars sold an astonishing 5.21 million units.
Digital sales continue to represent a reasonable proportion of software sales. Compared to the second quarter of last year, it increased year-on-year. Looking at the trend in digital sales during the digital switchover, one cannot help but notice a downward trend in the chart. It’s probably a cross between animals: New Horizons is such a success in the digital cash register that many people always want it on their system. Now that sales have slowed down somewhat, the digital wave for which the game was originally intended has levelled off. However, a serious bank is involved in the online shop.
At 30. As of September 2020, Nintendo Switch’s installation base includes 68.3 million systems with 456.49 software sold. It is now officially included in the highest sales figures of the NES, Super NES, N64, GameCube and Wii U. The 3DS is next in the list of popular games!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe managed to maintain first place based on the number of copies sold. Crucifixes : New horizons catch up with him fast, so we’ll have to see if he can catch up later in the year. It’s amazing to see the legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hits at 20 million marks in sales, because it really is one of the best games ever made.
