Returnal is a game that has been around since the early 2000’s. However, it had fallen out of popularity, and all but disappeared. Recently, however, it has seen a revival, with multiple videos on sites such as YouTube, as well as a loyal following on Reddit. If you’re new to Returnal, the game can be intimidating, with its deep history and complex gameplay. (It’s been called ‘Magic: The Gathering on the internet,’ and ‘My Little Pony Online’.)
Returnal brings the famous roguelike genre to the PS5 and is arguably one of the best games to appear on Sony’s new flagship console. But despite its beauty, Returnal is not an easy game, probably because there are no checkpoints in the middle levels, and if you die in the game, you have to play the whole level from the beginning, and it will be a completely different level, because that’s how roguelike games are made. That’s why we’ve put together this Returnal Beginner’s Guide to give you a good start in the game with some tips and tricks to get you through your first few hours of play.
Beginners guide– Return
Our Returnal Beginner’s Guide contains everything you need to know to get started with Returnal.
Always look forward to articles about health
The most important return tip comes first, and that is to always look for healthy items. There are two health sets in the game, one is Silphium and the other is Resin. The basic pickup is the same, it’s Silphium, but if you pick it up when your health reserve is full, it will turn into resin. Sylphium restores health when your health is poor. If you collect sylphium when your health is full, it will turn into resin and increase your health.
They’re relatively easy to spot on the map as greener icons on the mini map, and you can recognize them by their distinctive green glow thanks to the game’s beautiful graphics. Since Selfium has the dual ability to heal and increase your health meter, it’s important that you don’t miss any of the collections you see in the game. Even if your health is full, collect them all when you see them on the mini-map, because more health is always good in this game.
Let the adrenaline flow
Killing three enemies in a row multiplies the adrenaline by five. Each subsequent level gives you a random upgrade that lasts until you get hit. Adrenaline also doesn’t decrease over time, so the only chance to keep it active is to keep moving and avoid getting hit by enemies in the game. When you get hit, your adrenaline rises and your buffer disappears and you have to start over. Make sure your adrenaline is still high and in some cases you can make the fight easier.
Search for destroyable walls and hidden floors
Some Returnal walls can be broken because they are very fragile. These walls are easily recognized by the fact that they light up red in various places, indicating that there is something behind them and that you can break through them. They can easily be broken by melee attacks. So if you see a wall being destroyed, hit it quickly with a melee attack and reveal a hidden area behind it that will give you good, easy loot. In addition to the destructible walls, there are secret floors, marked by a golden glow in the ground. If you see them, step on them and they will break and reveal a hidden area.
Don’t waste the ether and save it for the restorers.
One of the biggest problems you’ll encounter in Returnal is that you’ll often die in the game. Since there are no checkpoints halfway through the game, you may have to restart a level if you have no resurrection items in play. However, there is a way to give yourself a second chance: spend time in the air with reenactors and get a resurrection point. If you die while running, you will be brought back to life in the reconstructor.
There is no fixed location for these re-enactors, so your chances of encountering them depend entirely on your luck. You can hit him at the end of a level, at the beginning of a level, or not at all. You also have to spend 6 precious ethers to guarantee a respawn, but ethers are not lost when you die, and you can always use them again later to continue collecting. Also, you should only spend ether on resurrection if you have an advanced level. Don’t waste ether on rebuilders in the early stages.
Give malicious objects a chance
Malicious items are items that can be included in returns, but they can cause your suit to not work properly. These failures are not 100% guaranteed, but they can happen in game. You can find them randomly, but also in chests or looted items. In general, if you’re already struggling in the game, it’s better to avoid these items, but some may prove useful in the future.
If you pick up a malicious item, you will be told what interference it can cause to your suit and how likely it is to do so. Depending on your choice, you are taking a risk because the failure may not occur at all if you are lucky enough to get a decent part. On the other hand, you can also get rid of these problems by performing certain tasks and trying these items.
Do not save Obolitas
Obolites are yellow gems that you get by killing random enemies and stones in the game. Obolites are one of the resources in the game that is strictly tied to a particular turn. This means that if you die, you lose all your obolites and can’t bring them back to the crash site. For this reason, you should never accumulate Obolites and use them as soon as you reach the Manufacturer. With these, you can acquire artifacts, stat increases, and various items from manufacturers. So make sure you always spend them instead of hoarding them.
Search for resurrection artifacts
A cheaper way to have a checkpoint in the game is to find an artifact that revives you when you die in the game, rather than having to start the whole game over. These artifacts are not easy to find in the game, but if you manage to find them, you should have them in your inventory, as they are the best artifacts in the game. If you find these respawn artifacts, like. B. the astronaut figure, save them because they bring you back to life with all your health when you die in the game.
Try online to increase the difficulty
If you already feel confident and think you know the game well, you can also try playing online. Playing online has its advantages, because in the game you can communicate with the projections of other players. In addition to the online rankings of the daily challenge, you can interact with the projections of players who have died in the same places as you. By interacting with them, you can participate in three activities.
If you have enough ether, you can spend some of it to loot their corpses. If you don’t want to do that, you might as well take revenge on them. If you choose this option, a powerful enemy will appear at the place where the player was killed, and you will have to fight and kill him. If you win the fight, you get cool loot. The avenged player will also receive a small reward the next time they visit the crash site. The third case is when a monster shows up directly on a corpse and you have to fight it with little or no bonus in return, so Returnal is always advantageous.
Practice, practice, practice
To conclude this guide, let me say that nothing works better than practice. Returnal is not a game with set patterns, and there are no set levels to the game. Each level is different and the enemies you face are random, so you can’t predict what you’ll be facing each time. To do this, you need to learn the mechanics of the game and practice through random training. It doesn’t matter if you keep dying in the game. It’s entirely possible to do some trial laps to get used to the game, and you really should. Do a few workouts, die a lot, and keep trying before you get serious about running. This will help you a lot in the game.
