Double weaving is a technique that was popularized by the gaming community in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Double weaving is a technique that involves using two different programs to create a single image in a program like Photoshop. The first program is used to create the base image that is usually less than 200×200 pixels. The second program is then used to fill in the image with color. An example of double weaving in action would be to use Photoshop to create a black and white image and then use a program like Paint Shop Pro to fill in the image with color.
When it comes to multiplayer gaming, you can’t be too careful. With so many games out there, and so much competition, the ability to communicate with other players quickly and easily is a must. Weaving is a method of communication that has been around since the dawn of online gaming.
Weaving and double weaving is a relatively new craze that involves weaving two or three different types of yarn together in order to create a unique look. The effect can be beautiful, but is not without its challenges, and mistakes can happen if you aren’t careful. Though the techniques of weaving and double weaving are slightly similar, there are some differences between the two; here is a quick rundown of the differences, so you know how to tell them apart.
When talking about job cycles, players in Final Fantasy XIV utilize phrases like weaving and double weaving.
While your other abilities are on Global Cool Down, you may use one or two talents (often abbreviated to GCD). It has nothing to do with Weaver, the clothing-making skill.
What Is The Relationship Between Weaving And The GCD?
To comprehend weaving, we must first go through the Global Cool Down.
When you use a weapon skill or spell, you usually can’t use another until the GCD runs out.
This is set at 2.5 seconds by default, which may not seem like a long period, but it is in comparison to other MMOs.
For players switching from other games, this makes XIV seem sluggish in contrast (at least at first).
But it’s done on purpose.
They want you to learn to know your rotation well enough that you can move with the battle and set up your positional assaults.
The Global Cool Down may be lowered by wearing gear with certain stats.
Spell Speed lowers the GCD for spells, whereas Skill Speed reduces it for weapon skills.
Another page discusses whether or not Skill/Spell Speed is required for your class.
However, by looking at your own priority, you should be able to determine how essential it is to you.
For easy-to-read instructions on your specific profession, I suggest SaltedXIV.
Furthermore, GCD has no effect on some abilities.
These abilities may be put to use at any moment. They also don’t trigger the GCD, so you may use them in a cycle during downtime to keep the damage up.
Off Global Cool Down – oGCD – is a term used to describe these abilities.
They, too, have their own cooldowns. However, you may use them while you wait.
Casting your oGCD abilities in between your regular rotation is referred to as “weaving.”
While the GCD is running down, “double weaving” is just utilizing two of those abilities.
What Are Some Weaving/Double Weaving Examples?
I play Gunbreaker, which isn’t a very difficult class to master.
It does, however, include a few excellent instances of weaveable skills.

The majority of my damage is generated by using my Aether Gauge to launch lengthy combo strikes, which may result in a significant amount of GCD time.
Gunbreaker can weave a few abilities into their GCD period without interrupting their combination, thus guaranteeing that they’re doing the most damage possible at the moment.
Blasting Zone unleashes an assault with an immediate potency of 800.
Bow Shock is an immediate AOE that does damage to everything caught in it over time.
Rough Divide, a distant closing ability with 200 potency and two charges, strikes for 200 potency and has two charges.
Rough Divide may be used in succession for a total potency of 400. If you’re confused about how potency works, I suggest reading this article.
The key point is that I can utilize all of these talents in the little window of time between my GCD abilities, reducing my rotation’s downtime.
This not only makes the game seem quicker, but it’s also essential for effectively utilizing your whole arsenal of skills and doing your job to the best of your ability.
I’ve previously said that many of these words only apply if you’re eager to advance in high-tier material, but weaving is a skill that everyone should learn.
Weaving makes your rotation as effective as possible, whether you like running dungeons and trials or not.

How Can I Tell When It’s Time To Weave/Double Weave?
That depends on the class you’re playing, and going through every class in depth is beyond the scope of this article.
As previously said, SaltedXIV is a good place to look for definite answers on that topic.
Here’s how things could happen in general:
Make use of a GCD ability. You’ll notice that until the timer runs out, you won’t be able to use any of the other abilities on the Global Cool Down. Some talents, such as your oGCD abilities, will remain accessible.
The goal is to intertwine these abilities with your GCD skills.
They’re usually immediate cast, which means they’ll start playing as soon as you press the button.
They have their own cooldown, so you’ll have to rely on your GCD abilities until they’re ready to use again.
The ability to weave depends on a variety of variables, including your current position in a battle, the quantity of opponents surrounding you, and the stage of your rotation you’re in.
So brush up on your weaving skills, grasp your rotation, and encounter, and you’ll be weaving like a pro in no time.
As the old saying goes, “you should never judge a book by its cover”. But with games, it’s a little different. Is it a good game? Is it worth my time? Is it worth my money? These are questions everyone asks when they look at a game. But sometimes they don’t know the answer. This blog is for those who.
