Deletion from list

All Cabela titles published by Activision were released on the 20th edition. October 2017 from the steam list. The games were probably removed from the list in the second half of October on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One after being introduced in the various sales on each platform (PlayStation, Xbox). Two versions of PlayStation Portable could have been uninstalled before their release, but they would have been removed by October 2017 at the latest. The mass cancellation is likely due to Cabela’s acquisition of the Planet Entertainment license, which led to the release of Cabela’s Die Jagd in 2018: The championship edition. More detailed information about the different sections can be found in the table below.

Since 1997, Cabela has granted an exclusive license of its trademark to Activision’s Value Publishing division for use in the video game industry. This also applies to many older documents that have never been published digitally. In June 2003, they announced that this lucrative activity would be extended for a further ten years, until 2014. Whether it’s a decline in sales or the brand’s out-of-home financial restrictions, Activision has not sought to renew its license for a similar period of time. The publisher has also discontinued its social media marketing activities by deleting Activision Hunts accounts on Twitter and Facebook 2014 and activisionhunts.com 2015.

The short licence renewal may be due to the fact that Activision released Cabela’s African Adventures-Port – originally released in 2013 – on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015. It seems that the license was not valid until 2018, when Planet Entertainment announced and published Cabelas Die Jagd: The championship edition is exclusive to Nintendo Switch.

Delisting

All of the Cabela’s titles published by Activision were delisted on Steam on October 20th, 2017. The titles were likely delisted in the latter half of October on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One after being featured in various sales on each platform (PlayStation, Xbox). Two early PlayStation Portable releases may have been delisted earlier but at the latest they would also have been removed in October 2017. The mass delisting was likely due to Planet Entertainment’s acquisition of the Cabela’s license leading up to the 2018 release of Cabela’s The Hunt: Championship Edition. Since 1997 Cabela’s exclusively licensed its brand to Activision’s ‘Value Publishing’ division for use in the video game space. This includes several early entries that were never released digitally. In June of 2003 the pair announced an extension of this lucrative deal for a further decade, ending in 2014. Whether due to a decline in sales or the financial struggles of the outdoor outfitter brand, Activision did not seek to extend their license for a similar block of time. The publisher also ceased marketing operations on social media, retiring the ‘Activision Hunts’ Twitter and Facebook accounts in 2014 and the activisionhunts.com website in 2015.

A brief licensing extension may have been struck as Activision released a port of Cabela’s African Adventures — initially released in 2013 — on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015. It appears that the license was then dormant until 2018 when Planet Entertainment announced and released Cabela’s The Hunt: Championship Edition exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
