June 2019 NPD Sales Results –

The NDP tracks video game sales in the United States and just released its June 2019 figures, and they’re not as great as we’d like. Total video game sales were $959 million, down 13% from $1.1 billion the year before. These revenues consisted of : Computer hardware ($235 million, down 33 percent), software ($386 million, down 1 percent) and gaming accessories and cards ($338 million, down 7 percent). For Microsoft and Sony, this may be a long way off, as the release of their next-generation systems has not been scheduled for over a year.

As for software, things are looking slightly better, with a slight decrease from last year. Thanks to big successes like Super Mario Maker 2 and Crash Team Racing : Fueled by nitro, players are spending heavily on new games. According to NDP analyst Matt Piscatella, the former set a new sales record for Mario Maker in its first month. This is the highest launch month in Crash Bandicoot history.
