On this day (January 29) in Nintendo’s history…
- Manhole was released in Japan in 1981 for Game & Watch Gold. This action game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, has four open hatches on the road, but only one hatch cover. Prevent pedestrians from falling into sewers by moving the manhole cover. With the four buttons you have to move the manhole cover to the four open manholes to catch all the pedestrians. For every pedestrian you save, you get one point. If three pedestrians fall into the sewer, the game stops.
- James Bond 007 was released in 1998 for the Game Boy on PAL. In this adventure developed by Saffire Corporation, an arms smuggling network threatens to create a new world order of crime and Agent 008 disappears during an investigation in Turkey. Before Agent 007, James Bond, finds out who is behind the conspiracy and finds 008. You start in China with a punch and a basic block attack, but as you go along you’ll pick up more items and weapons.
- Bugs Bunny: Crazy Castle 3 was released in Japan in 1999 for the Game Boy Color. In this adventure game developed by Kemko, Bugs Bunny finds a book called Treasures of an Old Castle in an antique shop. Buggy reads that the treasure will bring glory to his seeker, but the exact location of the treasure is unknown. But other Looney Tunes are trying to prevent the bugs from finding the treasure. Buggy must complete 61 levels, each containing eight keys, and he finds the treasure in none other than Lola Rabbit.
- Pokémon Fire Red and Pokémon Leaf Green were released in Japan in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance system. In this Game Freak-developed RPG remake of the Game Boy games Pokémon Red, Pokémon Green, and Pokémon Blue, they travel throughout Kanto, battling, capturing, and training wild Pokémon, and taking on other trainers and the evil Team Rocket. Among 200 Pokémon, 10 of which are unique to each version of the game, you’ll visit one of eight gyms to prove your worth and become a Pokémon Master.
- A little piece of… Puzzle League (known as Puzzle League Express in North America) was released in Japan for DSiWare in 2009. In this puzzle game developed by Intelligent Systems, you must drag the colored tiles three or more at a time to remove them. Other blocks are lifted off the playground floor. When the blocks hit the top of the screen, the game is over. There are four game modes in this version: Endless, Stage Clear, Score Attack and VS. COM.
