Pros and cons of PS5 after the first few months
Before we start with the pros and cons of the PS5, let’s mention the details that have affected the video game industry as a whole. It’s the lack of the PlayStation 5 in stores around the world that has left many of you still unable to enjoy Sony’s new console. The same goes for the Xbox Series X (its main competitor) and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards.
Jim Ryan, the CEO of PlayStation, has spoken out about the issue several times. The lack of semiconductors and other factory problems have made the PS5 very difficult to find in stores, and on top of that comes the resale and speculation plague.
However, it looks like this problem will be solved in the coming months. Refills are more common in UK stores. Of course, you have to be quick and sharp if you want to catch them.
Sony expects to sell 7.6 million PlayStation 5 devices by the end of the month, which is possible, though not easy. By the end of February, nearly 5.8 million consoles had been sold. So it will depend on the availability of supplies next week.

Exclusive PlayStation games
Sony continues to lean heavily on exclusive titles for its consoles. While there still aren’t many next-gen exclusive titles, PlayStation releases for both generations (PS4 and PS5) keep coming with a hint. In November, we were treated to Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls Remake and Sackboy: An amazing adventure, with much more to come in the coming months.
Not to mention the fun Astro’s Playroom (included with the console), games like Destruction All-Stars or the upcoming Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Ratchet and Crystal Dimension Beyond of Return, and real bombs like Horizon are already on the horizon from Forbidden West II or Ragnarok God of War. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until 2022 to enjoy Gran Turismo 7.
Grand New DualSense
One of the great new features of the PS5 is the DualSense controller, which is an incredible improvement over the DualShock 4. With a very striking design and great tactile feedback, this controller is a huge leap forward for the PlayStation brand and even changes the shape of our PS5 game. We enjoyed testing adaptive triggers, tactical zone vibration and other features.
Some things still need tweaking (like battery life or drift issues), but DualSense opens up a new path for future Sony PlayStation controllers. Indeed, titles like Deathloop and Ratchet & Clank A Dimension Apart will build on these new features in the coming months to immerse players even further.
New features such as activity cards or game aids
One of the most positive things about the PS5 is definitely the new features compared to the PS4. Sony’s new console has some big surprises in store, including the new Twitch app, the ability to record and share or record video clips, watch videos while playing, and the exciting PS5 remote play. But if we have to choose, we still have the activity cards and the game support.
Action cards challenge players to beat their own records and collect as many trophies and prizes as possible in a few hours. How about a game guide where you can see little instructions (in text or video) to get a certain trophy or go through a certain area, like you might see in the Astro game room. Two very well executed surprises.
New interface and benefits of SSD
We love the intuitive and fast interface that Sony has built into the PS5, which goes beyond what we saw on the PS4. The team itself offers many shortcuts, a simple and aesthetic navigation, attractive menus and functions that we can access in seconds. And it’s all thanks to the PlayStation 5’s fast SSD, which helps improve the console’s user experience.
But the SSD is also a big advantage for the video games themselves. PS5 load times are virtually non-existent, performance is much smoother than on the PS4, and more importantly, the ability to resize games is another big plus. For example, Spider-Man Mili Morales and Spider-Man Remastered take up less space on the PS5 than on the PS4, and the same goes for Control and Remedy games.

Released for both generations of PlayStation
For Sony, releasing games on the PS4 and PS5 is not only a delight for many users, but also a potential downside. A few months ago, PlayStation claimed to believe for generations that major exclusive titles were only playable on the PS5. That’s not entirely true, as Sackboy or Miles Morales from Spider-Man have already appeared on PS4, and Horizon II and the new Ratchet & Clank will follow.
This could obviously put a damper on the visual gains of new PlayStation-exclusive titles. While Demon’s Souls Remake or the upcoming Returnal are not playable on PS4, there are still plenty of releases for both generations. It’s unclear if it’s a good idea to release Horizon II Forbidden West on the PlayStation 4, and we’ll see how the game responds on that platform.
Errors and faults (sleep mode, drift in DualSense …)
This happens quite often with the launch of a new console, and the PS5 is no exception. This time, however, we find a good run of errors, more often than in the league. Starting with early hibernation (which we’ve already shown you how to disable), crashes and lockups, DualSense shutdown issues, error codes or controller drift problems.
Fortunately, there are solutions to many of these problems. We’ve already listed the most common PS5 issues and how you can fix them, and we hope Sony will fix these bugs in the coming months. There have also been cases of squeaky coils, excessive fan noise and other cooling issues with Sony’s console.
Confusion when playing PS4 optimized titles and backwards compatibility
When Sony confirmed that the PS5 would not be backwards compatible with the PSX, PS2 and PS3, there was much disappointment. Fortunately, we can enjoy just about the entire PS4 catalog on the new console, with improved resolution and performance. Still, you’ll be saddened by the fact that you won’t be able to play this wonderful classic anymore, especially since the PS Store will be closed forever on PS3, PSP and Vita.
Like the competition, you get free next-gen upgrades for many PS4 games, like Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PS5. But the process is a bit confusing (we explain how to do it correctly here), and there have even been times when you’ve played the PS4 version of the game instead of the PS5 version because of the confusion.
No PlayStation Game Pass
We applaud Sony’s recent achievements, including the inclusion of great games like Final Fantasy VII Remake in the free PS Plus games, or the Play At Home initiative allowing us to keep games like Ratchet & Clank (2016), Horizon Zero Dawn or Subnautica forever. among many others. However… The scope of the Xbox Game Pass service on PS4 and PS5 has eluded us, and PS Now seems inadequate.
Microsoft is turning Game Pass into a gaming fortress with new games (like 20 new Bethesda games) and service improvements all the time. With the inevitable move to digital, we think the PS5 should get its own PlayStation Pass, with games from all generations, classics, enhanced games (e.g. FPS Boost) and day one add-ons.
