OFFICIAL CONFESSION:
Publisher and co-developer Dotemu (publisher of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, developer of Windjammers 1 and 2) and co-developers Lizardcube (Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap) and Guard Crush Games (Streets of Rage) announced today that Streets of Rage 4 will deliver an explosion of absolute nostalgia with unlockable classic characters and music from Streets of Rage 1 and 2. Streets of Rage 4 will be released this spring on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One for $24.99, with the release date yet to be confirmed. Steam fans can play here: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/985890/Streets_of_Rage_4/.]
Today Dotemu released an action-packed gameplay trailer featuring some of Streets of Rage 4’s homage to the original trilogy, including unlockable pixel art characters with movies and features unique to each game. Streets of Rage fighters can engage the police to perform special moves, and Streets of Rage 3 characters can run and scroll through the environment. Catch Skate, Max and all the warriors of the nest make their glorious return.
These retro heroes combined with the five main handheld animated fighters from Streets of Rage 4 bring the total to 17. For a complete nostalgia trip, players can also upgrade to the series’ iconic original soundtrack, which plays songs from Streets of Rage 1 and Streets of Rage 2. Destroying the bad guys with these timeless songs is an incredibly satisfying retro experience.
Streets of Rage 4 is the first time in a major series in over 25 years. Revival combines the classic elements of Fury Street with new directions for more action, remarkably fluid hand-crafted graphics and an inventive and distinctive soundtrack directed by Olivier Deriviere that features world-class talent, including major contributions from the composers of the Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima series.
