Ranking the hardest bosses in games is always a controversial affair, especially when you’re trying to rank them all on the same list. So to make sure we have a set of criteria, we’re going to be looking at bosses in terms of the following:
Boss battles are the cornerstone of gaming. They make us feel like we’re accomplishing something, and they give us a chance to put our skills to the test. However, not all video game bosses are created equal, and some are much more challenging than the rest. The following is a countdown of some of the hardest bosses in gaming history, ranked by the level of difficulty of the battle. We had to pay very close attention to the amount of health the boss had and the amount of health you had when you started the battle. For example, Ganon from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was really hard because he had a ton of health. (We couldn’t even beat him when we were a kid!). Final Fantasy V is far from the hardest game in the series. But it has its share of difficult bosses. SNES-era RPGs often have a higher difficulty level than their more modern counterparts. But as time goes on, we discover more useful (and even more corny) diapers. Still, there are a few bosses in FF5 that can give you a serious headache, whether you play blind or with a predetermined strategy. In this article, I’ll introduce you to some of the hardest bosses in the entire game. Note to self: I’ll leave out the bosses in the extra bonus dungeon Sealed Temple, as almost all of them are extremely difficult.8. Atomos
The franchise has had a number of memorable memory drawings over the years. And this guy really is one of the best. Atomos makes his Final Fantasy debut in the SNES Vanilla version of FFV and comes with a bag of mean tricks. Atomos constantly unleashes a comet that hits your entire party hard and ignores defenses. When he manages to kill one of the group, he starts dragging their lifeless bodies towards him. And as soon as they get close enough, he pulls them out of the fight. Yeah, not really. The best way to beat him is to have him pull the dead party member towards him, since he only uses gravity moves in this sequence. Use this free time to shake up your group and go hunting. Remember to revive a dead party member before you kill him. You can also use Sleep on Atomos to revive a stunned party member, then use magic attacks for the rest of the fight.
7. Exdeath
This refers to the first real fight with him in his castle, not the scripted fight where Galuf fights alone. The biggest difficulty factor is that there is just no reliable strategy to win easily. Exdeath uses Doom, which kills a party member after 30 seconds, then periodically performs Ice 3 and Fire 3 in succession. To reduce his high HP, it is better to use high level magic and invocations. If you have recovered light spikes, you can use them to inflict 2000 points of damage. You can also use rapid fire with a blood sword to deal heavy damage, and try to soften his attacks by applying an ice shield or aegis shield. Sure, it’s not the hardest boss in the game. But it’s one of those patterns that can give you a headache if you’re not prepared.
6. A
Odin’s difficulty isn’t down to his moves or damage, but the fact that it takes you a minute to beat him before you automatically lose the game. His HP is not the highest either. But you should still hurry up and remove it before it’s too late. And an observation: One absorbs the saint, so make sure you don’t have a weapon with the saint. To effectively take him out, you can attack your group and spam Meteor, Lightning Bolt and Rapid Fire with Lightning Blade. Odin’s only threatening move is his signature Zantetsuken, which inflicts about 1000 HP on the group. But at this stage of the game, it’s not too dangerous. Just perform your strongest moves and this very useful summoner will be yours.
5. Leviathan
Leviathan is definitely scarier than Odin. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have ways to deal with the hard knocks. As expected, Leviathan’s main source of damage will be its water attacks. If you have coral rings, you can be sure that you won’t be bothered by them. If the party doesn’t have this equipment, the water spray does a lot of damage and the tidal wave will probably knock you unconscious instantly. Leviathan can also paralyze your group. Coral rings or not, the best way to deal with him is to exploit his weakness for thunder techniques. You can also use Mighty Guard to limit the damage. If you succeed in this fight, you will gain access to Leviathan as a summon.
4. Bahamut
Bahamut is extremely difficult, but serves as a test for the final boss. If you can defeat Bahamut, you are more than ready to finish the game. Coral rings also protect him from the powerful tidal wave and water spray. But that’s all you can avoid defensively. Everything else Bahamut does can seriously tear you apart. Summoning a golem gives you the protection you need. And the use of Cure 3 is required after almost every attack turn. When Bahamut runs out of health, he launches a megaflyer that deals up to 5,000 damage to your team and almost guarantees the end of the game unless you’re heavily outgunned. To counteract this, summon Carbuncle when he is running low on health. This will save you from certain death.
3. Neo Exdeath
First: If you play the original game, you can avoid the final form of Exdeath by taking advantage of the SNES version’s blessing kiss. If you’re playing on the GBA or later, or if your moral compass keeps you from cheating, read on. Neo Exdeath consists of 4 parts. And all four attack quickly and recklessly. Their techniques consist of high-level magic, but his repertoire includes some pretty nasty tricks. The back can use a delta attack that has a chance to petrify, but this move can be sent back to Neo Exdeath exactly once – eliminating the party it hits. There are also 2 scripted moves to keep an eye on: The Almagest and the Great Cross. Almagest hits your group very hard and can cause sap. During Grand Cross, each member of your group gets a random status effect. To defeat Neo Exdeath, use your most powerful summons and rapid fire techniques. A double Bahamut spell, imitated immediately, results in 4 Bahamut spells with a cost of 2 MP that deal heavy damage to all 4 units. Rapid fire and holy blade are also a good way to do a lot of damage here. Destroy one Neo Exdeath piece at a time, switching to an AOE attack when there are only two pieces left. If you can narrow it down to one character, Neo will attack Exdeath twice a turn – regularly with things like Meteor and Almagest, which of course you should avoid at all costs.
2. Omega
The last two places in this ranking are known for their complexity. And of all those bosses, I’d say Omega is a little easier to beat. Yet you are in a difficult situation. And to survive his attacks, you have to do some preliminary work. Omega has a pretty rich arsenal of attacks. Rocket Punch is gravity based and causes confusion even for band members with tires. Encircle immobilizes a party member and they cannot be revived, but this can be avoided with Dragon’s Kiss mix. The earthquake can be avoided by using levitation on your side, and the fire rings protect you from the atomic beam. But even with the right installation and preventative measures, this battle is no easy one. And Omega can be easily destroyed on the first turn. Rapid fire and Bolt 3 sword do a lot of damage to Omega, but avoid them when he attacks or you risk his counterattacks. The heist of your team is very important and you have to run Heal 3 and Resurrect often to keep everyone alive until the end.
1. Shinryu
On his first turn, Shinryu throws Tsunami. If there is no defense against it, it gives your group an OHKO. and it will tell you everything you need to know about Shinryu. His techniques consist of powerful elemental attacks that you can (thankfully) fend off. Coral rings are essential to absorb tsunamis. And the ice shield protects against his ice storm and atomic beam. And constantly use the Golem summon to soften his physical attacks. As for your attack strategy, it depends on how prepared you are. The easiest way to deal with Shinryu is to have everyone in your group use the Double Strike and Jump skills – and equip them with a pair of Dragonlances for each group member, as well as a Coral Ring. If you’re high enough, you can take out Shinryu before the first round of attacks is over. Alternatively, you can blind Shinryu with the Dark Sigh mix and give him Berserk status with the Bacchus Cider mix. Then continue to summon the golem and reduce its health if you want. And if you’ve managed to defeat all the items on this list, then you’ve officially conquered everything the base game has to offer. If you’re brave enough, you can complete the bonus dungeon Sealed Temple, which contains enhanced versions of many of the game’s bosses. And if you accept this challenge, well, good luck! The bosses of video games are often the most iconic and memorable parts of the games they are in, making their games feel cohesive and making the player feel like they’re really part of something. However, when the boss is really hard, it can make the game feel really disjointed, which is a problem. Some video games have bosses that are overwhelmingly difficult and can end up tainting the entire experience. This list is going to solely focus on video game bosses that are impossible to beat or so hard that you want to give up on the game..
