The last game in the racing series to make its way to a Nintendo system was Burnout 2 for the GameCube. So it’s been a long time (18 years) since Nintendo fans had the chance to burn rubber. Burnout Paradise Remastered runs at 60 frames per second on the Switch and includes all the major DLCs that have been released (Cops & Robbers Pack, Legendary Cars, Burnout Bikes, Big Surf Island). The game also features an online mode for up to eight players!
But (and it is a GREAT game, but) the game comes at a pretty high price of $49.99. That’s pretty cool considering the game currently costs $19.99 on Xbox One and PS4. I know you’re going to say now that the game was released on the above platforms, and you’d be right – $39.99 was the original price. But if small, independent, third-party studios can release Switch games on cartridges for $19.99 and $29.99 and still make a profit, it’s hard to believe EA can’t do the same.
My first hypothesis was that maybe the game was so big that it required a more expensive playing card, and therefore the retail price was higher. However, check out Nintendo’s official website and you’ll see that the game is only 4 GB in size. Now I don’t pretend to know how much time and money EA invested in developing this Switch port, but the $50 price tag is another example of the company’s inability to understand how to market its games for Nintendo’s console. Whether it’s using the latest outdated technology (FIFA) or completely ignoring games that are likely to be suitable for Switch audiences (The Sims and Plants vs. Zombies), it’s clear that EA hasn’t taken the platform seriously yet.
I’m glad to see Burnout Paradise Remastered coming to the Switch for those who like to play arcade races. Whether you think the $50 asking price is acceptable or not, you can vote with your wallet.
