Frequently asked questions – No spoilers / General questions
Q : When does the game come out?
A : Nobody knows the release date. Courtesy of
Rewrite history and a coronavirus pandemic, most speculators believe will happen in 2021. There are 2 other EA (Early Access) releases planned before the final release.
Q : What’s the latest update?
A : Early Access 12 (Relics of the Past) was published on 30. October 2020 published. This implies a rewriting of history since EA9. It’s much more advanced now. Most telephone lines are now in use. The end is delayed until the final release.
Clear the line: EA12 > EA 13 > Version 1.0 (console) > Version 1.1 (version)
22. Update to the May 2020 blog by the developers.
Q : How do I access experimental mode or the first previous constructs?
A : This feature is only available for the Steam version. You can activate the experimental mode
to receive daily updates. For earlier versions of Early Access (e.g. EA8), use the beta access code. Below zero, Early Access is in the same location where you activated experimental mode.
Q : Where can I find version status updates?
A : Check the following points :
Q : What is the status of the game’s development? What is the scope of the story?
A : Almost done. The special thing is that almost everything is available. Basically, it’s probably 80% of the way. EA9 (April 2020) deleted 80% of the original story and reworked the intro. Please note that the end of the story will be closed for the official final version (1.1).
If I were to give a personal assessment of the completeness of the EA12 (October 30) in relation to what you expect from the final product:
- Game features : 95%
- Location complete: 90%
- The story: 80%
- Polishing and fine tuning : 80%
These are mostly bug fixes and small changes to gameplay.
Q : Can I continue to save the game between Early Access updates?
A : No, not really. If you keep saving the game between previous versions, you will almost certainly miss features or new story elements in the newer versions. As a general rule, you should restart your saved game whenever there is a major update.
Q : Why can’t I find
A : The others are probably in the experimental release cycle, updated daily instead of every 1-2 months. You may also have to start a new saved game if the new feature is missing. As a general rule, you should restart your saved game whenever there is a major update.
Q : I am physically stuck in the game and I cannot escape from my current location.
A : Turn on the console and enter either warp forward 5 or death (suicide and rebirth, possibly in a safe place).
Q : Should I buy this game now or later?
A : Variations on this question are asked weekly. It’s a personal choice. There is no right answer to the question of whether you should play now. Use the existing search results if you really want to know what others think. If you want to know more, I recommend not playing the game before it’s released. However, this may be your only chance to play the original scenario. (Use Steam’s beta access code to switch to EA8).
A wise man once remarked:
You’ll have a better experience if you wait until the BZ is ready. Playing now is mostly for us junkies, who have no patience.
Q : Do I need the original version of Subnautica to play this? Should I play the original first?
A : No. It’s a separate game. Yes, you have to play the original first.
Q : I can’t wait that long. What can I do to pass the time?
A : As you wish. You can go back to OG Subnautica and try the super heavy Subnautica: Call below zero (meters). Or play Long Dark Sky or No Man’s Sky (sorry, that was a bad recommendation).
Q : Where are all the devils?
A : They’re conflicted. Read the rules of discord before communicating; it is very easy to get banned for breaking the rules. NEVER ping mods or blanks.
Q : Is there a VR for this game?
A : The developers have specifically stated that they do NOT intend to develop VR, so have no illusions. (There will probably be mods made by fans).
Q : Is this game scary?
A : Not really, unless you have thalassophobia. It’s not SOMA or Les.
Q : Will consoles be available below zero as well?
A : Yes, eventually. Devices are working console ports, but they don’t turn on until the game is finished. See the roadmap section of their Favro console.
Q : Will there be a multiplayer mode?
A : No, I don’t think so. As Mr. Fowlin pointed out:
Every time someone mentions collaboration or multiplayer, the developers push the full release date back a day.
Q : New features will be added to the original Subnautica below zero.
A : No. (I thought developers sometimes released bug fixes for the original).
Q : Why can’t I scan
A : Not all structures and fauna/flora can be scanned yet.

.
